Types of dental implants
There are several types of dental implants. They differ in their macro design (dimensions and shape) as well as in micro design, in their surfaces. Today, two-part endoosseous implants are most commonly used. Apart from them, zygomatic, pterygoid, transdental ones are used in some situations. There are other types of dental implants, but they are old-fashioned today, so they are rarely or not used at all.
There are different types of endooseal dental implants, cylindrical or root-shaped, the so-called conical implants. Dental implants still differ in the type, purity of titanium alloy, design, number and density of threads on them.
What are endoosseous dental implants and what do they look like?
Endoosseous dental implants are relatively small. Their dimensions range from about 3.3mm to 4.8mm in diameter and from 8 to 14mm in length. There are also so-called shorty dental implants whose length can be about 4mm.
Companies around the world also produce short dental implants that have completely changed their shape, as well as the concept of implantation. This type of implant is used in unfavorable conditions and in situations where there is a lack of bone tissue. Years of research and the use of this type of dental implants have proven their great quality.
World famous and proven companies have developed a system of narrower implants that are installed in the jaws where there is not enough bone width. The technology used to make them gives them mechanical resistance equal to implants of standard diameter, and fixed bridges or crowns can be made on them.
What are zygomatic and pterygoid dental implants?
Zygomatic and pterygoid implants are special types of dental implants that are intended for installation in the lateral regions of the upper jaw in conditions where there is not enough bone tissue. They are significantly longer than standard implants. Except in the upper jaw, they are attached to the bones of the face and skull. They require precise surgical technique during installation and have a number of special features in the production of prosthetic restorations on them.
Zygomatic implants are most commonly used in the all 4 concept of dental implant placement and restorations.
Other types of dental implants
Mini implants are used for severe lack of bone width. Mini implants are very narrow and cannot withstand the load of a potential bridge on them. Therefore, they are mainly used as carriers for mobile prostheses.
The orthodontic implant serves as a fulcrum in the orthodontic therapy phase.
What type of dental implant do we recommend?
The best dental implants are always those that are perfectly implanted and that do not differ from the patient’s natural teeth. There are many types and brands of dental implants on the market. A large number of dental implants available on the market fall into the category of cheap implants. Medium category implants are also available, as well as premium implants, which have been present in dental implantology for years.
Dental implants Bicon, Straumann, Bredent, Sweeden and Martina are among the highest quality dental implants on the world and domestic market, and we use these brands of implants in the Dental Practice Cvjetković. These brands of dental implants are known for top quality, stability and aesthetics.
Before, in agreement with the patient, we choose a certain type and brand of dental implant, it is necessary for the patient to make a three-dimensional image of the jaws (CBCT or CT).
To decide which type of dental implants is best for a particular patient, we must first consider a number of different factors. The quality of the patient’s bone in certain parts of the jaw is one of the most important factors when choosing the appropriate type of dental implant. The type of later prosthetic work that will be done on the implants is also a significant factor when choosing a dental implant.
It is recommended that dental implants be placed in aesthetically important regions, the neck of which ends at the level of the bone, the so-called “bone level” and which in that part have an increased thread density. In contrast, in the lateral regions of the jaws, and especially in the lower one, implants are resorted to, which have a factory highly polished “collar” in the neck part. Such implants provide the possibility of better cleaning and maintenance of oral hygiene.
After considering all the factors and a detailed analysis of the images, we suggest the patient the appropriate type of dental implant, as well as implant therapy, which is an integral part of the implant placement process.
What metals are dental implants made of?
Titanium, and in some implants, zirconium, are the highest quality metals around which dental implants are made and the only metals that accelerate osseointegration or bone fusion behind the implant.
What are the prices of dental implants?
There are a number of types and brands of dental implants on the market today that are very cheap. Unfortunately, their lifespan and quality cannot be compared to dental implants such as Straumann, Bicon, Sweeden and Martina, which we use in the Cvjetković Dental Practice.
