Bad breath
The fact is that a large number of people feel bad breath at least once in their lives. The problem is when chewing gum, mouthwash or frequent brushing cannot solve it. The reasons for bad breath can be benign but also serious when professional help is needed.
It is most often caused by problems in the mouth, more precisely due to poor oral hygiene. Insufficient brushing of teeth causes the deposition of dental plaque and food residues on the teeth and gums. With the action of minerals from saliva, such residues over time become tartar that cannot be removed by regular brushing. Calculus causes inflammation of the gums and bones under the gums, creating periodontal pockets in which food and tartar are even easier to retain. And so a vicious circle emerges. Periodontal pockets cannot be cleaned with a toothbrush and they are filled with stale food, tartar and bacteria. All this together causes an unpleasant odor.
In addition to the mentioned causes, bad breath can occur due to frequent chronic sinusitis, sleeping with the mouth open, with prosthesis wearers who do not clean them regularly and the like.
Various medical conditions can also cause bad breath:
- bowel problems,
- frequent vomiting, dehydration and dry mouth,
- gastroesophageal reflux disease,
- ketoacidosis,
- liver disease
How to treat bad breath
In order to treat bad breath, it is necessary to treat its causes. When the causes are in the mouth, the first step is to establish good and proper oral hygiene habits. This is followed by the elimination of gingivitis and deep cleansing or curettage of existing periodontal pockets. If there is dry mouth or mouth breathing, it is necessary to consider the reasons for these phenomenon, and they are often of an orthodontic nature, i.e. incorrect position of the tongue, soft tissue and dental arches.
If the unpleasant odor is not pronounced, it is enough to adhere to good oral hygiene habits at home. The use of certain means significantly and in a very short time eliminates bad breath.
